F.A.Q.'s
Q. What is an Eye Cerf? An Eye Cerf examination must be conducted by a Canine Eye Specialist. It is to detect any genetically inherited eye diseases prior to breeding or for breed line/breed specific research. Many other problems can be detected during this exam.
Q. Do I need an appointment for my dogs eye cerf? Yes, you need to be pre-registered for the eye clinic. Just contact our centre for an appointment.
Q. What do I need to supply at this Eye Cerf? The dogs registered owners name and address. Dogs registered name, breed, color, sex. Dogs date of birth. Dogs registration number, tattoo/microchip number. Fee charged for examination.
Q. What do the eye drops do to my dog? The eye drops given to your dog 15 minutes before examination will last approximately 4 hours. They dilate the eyes so for us it would be like looking thru smudged glasses. Your dog should avoid bright sunlight for the remainder of the day.
Q. Will I get my dogs results immediately? Yes, you do. This appointment includes results from Dr. Lewis at the end of the appointment.
Q. Does this exam automatically register my dogs eyes with the Canine Foundation? No, this does not. It is your choice and your responsibility to send the examination sheet to the Canine Eye Registration Foundation. All of the necessary information is on the back of the examination paper.
Q. Who does the eye examination? We are very privileged to have Dr. Graham T. Lewis, DVM. DACVO, conduct our Eye Cerf Clinics.
